At Little Treasures Nursery and Pre-school, we truly believe that play is not simply something children do to pass the time. It is how they make sense of the world around them. It is how they build confidence, develop friendships and discover what they are capable of.
From the moment your child walks through our doors, play is woven into every part of their day. It is in the laughter that fills our rooms, in the concentration on a little face as a tower is carefully built, and in the proud smile when something new is achieved.
Play is the heart of learning here, and always will be.
Learning Through Exploration
Children are naturally curious. They want to touch, test, question and explore. When given the freedom to play in a safe and nurturing environment, they begin to develop the skills that form the foundation for lifelong learning.
Whether they are exploring textures in sensory trays, role playing in our home corner, building with blocks or investigating the outdoors, they are learning far more than meets the eye. They are developing language, strengthening fine and gross motor skills, practising problem solving and learning how to work alongside others.
We carefully plan our environments to spark curiosity and encourage independence, while following each child’s interests. By tuning into what excites them, we are able to extend their learning in ways that feel natural and meaningful.
Building Confidence and Independence
Play gives children the chance to take risks in a safe way. To try. To make mistakes. To try again.
At Little Treasures Nursery and Pre-school, we gently encourage children to make choices, lead their own play and express their ideas. When a child decides how to build their creation, organise a game with friends or solve a small problem on their own, they are developing resilience and self belief.
These moments may seem small, but they are powerful. They are the building blocks of confidence.
Supporting Social and Emotional Development
Some of the most important lessons in early childhood happen during play with others. Sharing resources, negotiating roles in a game, comforting a friend or celebrating someone else’s success all help children to understand emotions and develop empathy.
Our caring and experienced team are always close by to support and guide these interactions. We model kindness, encourage respectful communication and help children to name and understand their feelings.
Through play, children learn that they are valued, listened to and capable.
Preparing for the Future
Play based learning does not mean a lack of structure. Quite the opposite. Our activities are thoughtfully planned in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage, ensuring that children develop the skills they need for the next stage of their education.
Early literacy and numeracy skills are introduced through meaningful, hands on experiences. Mark making in the role play area, counting ingredients in a cooking activity or recognising shapes in the garden all help children build essential foundations in a way that feels enjoyable rather than pressured.
By the time our children move on to school, they leave us as confident, curious learners who are ready and excited for their next adventure.
A Place Where Childhood Is Cherished
Above all, we believe childhood should be joyful.
At Little Treasures Nursery and Pre-school, play allows children to be exactly who they are. To explore their interests. To ask questions. To imagine, create and grow.
It is a privilege to be part of those early years and to watch each child flourish in their own unique way.
